Course: Breakfast, Dessert
Cuisine: American
Servings: 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 6 medium royal gala apples (6 cups chopped)
  • 1 1/2 cups strawberries (quartered)
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (add 1/2 cup if berries aren't sweet)

Instructions

  • Begin by peeling, coring, and chopping the apples into evenly sized-pieces. Then, remove the stems from the strawberries and quarter them.
  • Next, combine the apples, strawberries, water, and sugar in a large pot (5-6qt). Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer over medium heat. Cover and cook for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are incredibly tender. (Lift the lid to prevent the mixture from boiling over.)
  • Once the mixture has cooled slightly, blend it until smooth or to your desired texture, using an immersion or stand blender. Serve chilled for optimal taste.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness. You may need to add more sugar depending on the type of apples you choose and the sweetness of the strawberries you're using.
  • You can adjust the texture of your applesauce by experimenting with a chunkier or smoother texture to find the perfect balance for your taste buds.
  • To add depth and complexity to your applesauce, try mixing different apple varieties.
