Course: Breakfast, Dessert
Cuisine: American
Servings: 2 cups
- 6 medium royal gala apples (6 cups chopped)
- 1 1/2 cups strawberries (quartered)
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar (add 1/2 cup if berries aren't sweet)
Begin by peeling, coring, and chopping the apples into evenly sized-pieces. Then, remove the stems from the strawberries and quarter them.
Next, combine the apples, strawberries, water, and sugar in a large pot (5-6qt). Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer over medium heat. Cover and cook for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are incredibly tender. (Lift the lid to prevent the mixture from boiling over.)
Once the mixture has cooled slightly, blend it until smooth or to your desired texture, using an immersion or stand blender. Serve chilled for optimal taste.
- Adjust sweetness. You may need to add more sugar depending on the type of apples you choose and the sweetness of the strawberries you're using.
- You can adjust the texture of your applesauce by experimenting with a chunkier or smoother texture to find the perfect balance for your taste buds.
- To add depth and complexity to your applesauce, try mixing different apple varieties.
